I went to my first Zumba class this weekend and I LOVED it! My friend’s gym had a ‘bring a friend’ night so I went along and initially I was a little nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. I had heard about Zumba, but I never really inquired too deeply about it because I just assumed it was another workout craze (think Tae Bo) that would eventually die down and fade away. I knew it was based around Latin dance moves and I KNOW I have rhythm so I figured it wouldn’t be too hard for me to pick up – it wasn’t but it was a REAL workout. The instructor’s name was Love and she was on some hardcore, hip swiveling tip and jumped right into the routine. Besides a little booty-popping, pelvic gyrating and shimmying, I don’t know how many Latin steps were really incorporated, but we were hopping around like crazy for 45 minutes and I doubled the calories I usually burn in one of my regular 45 minute workouts. The next day, I had sore muscles in my back and bottom that I didn’t know existed and I LOVED it! I spent the rest of the weekend hunting down every gym that offered Zumba because I wanted to do it some more! All of the gyms only had Zumba on one or two days a week and I wanted a more frequent option and I actually found a dance studio that has a Zumba class everyday so I plan on buying a 20 class pass so I can get my groove on! Zumba, I endorse you!
